Waste Mail 026: December's best music 🔥
A recap of the crucial club music you might have missed at the end of '24
Welcome to Waste Mail, the newsletter that’s dedicated to cutting-edge club music and is written by Seb Wheeler for Tropical Waste 🔥
Happy New Year. A little late with this one but I wanted to make sure you didn’t miss anything from the very end of ‘24.
There’s more than enough to keep you entertained until our January round-up in a couple weeks’ time 🙏🏻
Out to everyone who came through to Tropical Waste x Drifting. Another special night at Ormside, and a line-up that really did nail the classic weird/fun Waste axis.
Next up is 160 Unity at MOT with RP Boo and DJ Spinn on the same line-up in LDN for the very first time. We dropped the full line-up before Christmas and the show sold-out in 10 days. Mad. 50 tix on the door for the early crew - I’ll see you down the front.
I spent the holiday reading Pressure Drop, a history of reggae in the ‘70s by John Masouri and featuring his extensive interviews with artists from the time. It’s mindblowing how influential that scene was on wider music culture and history (soundsystems, dubbing / remixing, the advent of rap etc). Was nice to have the time to get immersed in the book…
…So it felt right to kick off a recent two-hour radio show with some classic dub music before moving into other innovative and imaginative forms of bass music. Out to Winggold for the invite, was nice to be back ‘broadcasting’ again.
Have fun digging and see you again soon <3
